Table Tennis Club
In the 2005/2006 academic year, with the registration of 16 students and under the leadership of Mr. József Stricho, the table tennis club commenced. This initiative subsequently enjoyed great success and served as the foundation for outstanding achievements.
At the beginning of the year, progress was somewhat hindered, as slightly outdated equipment restricted the development of talented players. However, during that same year, through a successful grant application, our school acquired three new competition tables, nets, court dividers, and score counters. No other institution in the wider region could boast such modern equipment. The top-performing students attending the table tennis club went on to represent our school at the district championship organized for primary schools.
The boys' team, consisting of Kristóf Kiss, Péter Skabela, Dávid Régi, and Jiři Cibuľa, achieved an honorable second place out of ten competing schools.
Similarly, the four-member girls' team, comprising Lúcia Saróka, Ágota Petényi, Klaudia Paulovics, and Szimona Záhorsky, also finished in second place.
In the same year, the mayor's office, the primary school, and the local table tennis club established the village table tennis championship for the Balog nad Ipľom Mayor's Cup. The first champion whose name was inscribed on the cup was Mr. József Stricho.
In the 2006/2007 academic year, inspired by the previous year's successes, 22 students enrolled in the club, continuing under the guidance of Mr. József Stricho. For the students who diligently attended the club and trained conscientiously, their hard work yielded fruitful results.
At the district championship organized for primary schools, the quartet of Jiři Cibuľa, Dávid Molnár, Attila Papp, and Denisz Paulovics confidently won the tournament, earning the right to participate in the regional round held in Rimavská Sobota. The four best teams from four districts (Lučenec, Veľký Krtíš, Rimavská Sobota, and Poltár) met and competed there. Our team performed admirably, securing a commendable third place on the podium.
The girls' team must also be commended for maintaining their excellent form this year; the team consisting of Lúcia Saróka, Klaudia Paulovics, and Simona Záhorsky finished in second place at the district championship.
Our primary school students also participated in large numbers in the village tournament held for the Mayor's Cup. Among them, Dávid Molnár advanced to the quarterfinals. Mr. József Stricho narrowly missed defending his title, losing a close match in the finals.
Furthermore, our students regularly attend the training sessions of the local table tennis team, and Dávid Molnár has already competed for the adult team in the district championship.
These results undoubtedly speak for themselves, and we trust that the club, launching with renewed momentum, will attract a significant number of participants next year as well.
